AI & The Future of Work
Beyond the algorithm: Why human connection is the ultimate workplace superpower
We can order food, book a cheap flight, or run a project without speaking to another human. But in the workplace? It\'s leaving people isolated, burnt out, and constantly miscommunicating.

We can order food, book a cheap flight, or run a project without speaking to another human. It\’s efficient, sure. But in the workplace? It\’s leaving people isolated, burnt out, and constantly miscommunicating.
Somewhere along the line, business decided that replacing real conversations with software was an upgrade. HR turned into automated portals, recruitment became a game of beating keyword bots, and conflict resolution turned into passive-aggressive email chains.
At Nomad HR, Talent and Mediation, we think it\’s time to call time on relying entirely on tech. Technology is a brilliant tool, but when it replaces human conversation at work, everyone loses.
Here\’s why putting real people back at the heart of working life isn\’t just nice — it\’s critical.
1. Stop writing off a whole generation
Look at the entry point of the UK job market today. ONS data shows that nearly 1 million young people aged 16 to 24 are currently NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training).
A huge part of the problem is how we hire. When recruitment relies on automated tracking systems, anyone without a traditional, polished CV gets binned automatically. An algorithm can\’t spot grit, attitude, or potential — it just sees a gap on a piece of paper.
This is why NEET mentoring is so close to my heart. Mentoring does what software never can. It\’s about sitting down with someone face-to-face, helping them see their own worth, and giving them the practical confidence to find ways to open doors. If we don\’t build real human pathways into work, we leave an entire generation behind while businesses complain about talent shortages.
2. Recruitment has gone cold
It isn\’t just young jobseekers suffering under automated systems. Experienced professionals are getting fed up too.
How many times have you tailored a job application, pressed submit, and received total silence — or a cold automated rejection three weeks later?
When recruitment becomes purely transactional, companies stop seeing people and start seeing line items. It genuinely scares me that companies can get all the way to an interview stage without having spoken to the candidate once.
It is magical when a candidate and a company genuinely click. That spark — when you just know someone is going to thrive in a team — is amazing, and it is completely missing when AI does all the heavy lifting. A great hire isn\’t a collection of keywords on a PDF. It\’s about values, emotional intelligence, and mutual trust — things you only figure out through real, unscripted conversations. Software can match skills; humans match character.
3. Why small misunderstandings blow up on Teams
Once people are actually in a job, the lack of human contact keeps causing issues.
When communication happens entirely over Teams, chat or email, nuance gets lost. Tone vanishes. A quick update comes across as blunt, someone gets defensive, and a tiny misunderstanding escalates into a massive issue.
Acas research shows workplace conflict costs UK employers £28.5 billion every single year — affecting nearly 10 million workers. The worst part? Over £11 billion of that comes from people resigning simply because nobody sat down to talk things through properly before it got out of hand.
We\’ve traded two-minute chats for formal grievance processes, and it\’s ruining workplace culture.
4. Why mediation beats policy every time
When communication breaks down, sending another policy document or a cold HR email won\’t fix it. You can\’t de-escalate tension with a template.
This is where Mediation comes in. Real mediation isn\’t about pointing fingers. It\’s about creating a safe, neutral space where people can drop their guard, actually listen, and rebuild trust.
When you bring empathy and plain speaking into a room, problems that felt impossible suddenly get solved. It saves businesses a fortune in recruitment costs, but more importantly, it saves people months of unnecessary stress.
The Nomad difference
Look at our full name — Nomad HR, Talent and Mediation. We don\’t see these as separate corporate services. They are four stages of the exact same human story:
Mentoring: Taking young people out of the “computer says no” bin and giving them the practical tools and belief to start their careers.
Talent: Placing people based on real connection, character, and cultural fit.
HR: Building environments where employees feel supported and backed.
Mediation: Stepping in as the neutral bridge when relationships get rocky.
The world doesn\’t need faster algorithms, colder screening tools, or more automated portals. It needs people who know how to listen, guide, and connect.
Whether you\’re trying to find your next great team member, fix a fallout at work, or give a young person their first real shot, the answer is always the same: bring the human touch back.
Ready to bring the human touch back to your business?
Whether you need help finding your next team member, resolving an internal issue, or setting up a mentoring pathway, let\’s have a real conversation.
